The beauty of Marborough
Arts, Heritage and Culture

Arts and Crafts

Scenic Marlborough inspires talented painters, sculptors, weavers and potters. The Art and Craft Trail guides you to studios in town, country and – by boat cruise - the Sounds. View or buy works by local and leading national artists at public, private and winery galleries, soak up a summer vineyard concert, take in a local or touring theatre performance or browse for antiques.

The Millennium Art Gallery

The Millennium Public Art Gallery features curated exhibitions of national and regional artists, including major touring shows; the gallery shop offers fine pieces of local art and craft, specialty magazines and cards.

Marlborough Heritage

Marlborough is rich in Maori legend and colonial history. Early Maori occupants had many histories and legends connected with the high peaks and the formation of unusual landforms and the waterways of the Sounds. Colonial settlement saw European agricultural methods replace traditional Maori farming. Sites of historic conflicts are marked by memorials.

Each town museum offers fascinating insights – a recreation of early Blenheim at Brayshaw Park, relics of Picton’s whaling heyday, treasures of Renwick’s early farming days.

Follow the self-drive ‘Treasured Pathway’ and 'Heritage Trail' to discover Marlborough history yourself
