The former 5th Bank building at 33 Wellington Street in Picton has gone through several transformations over the years. It has been operated as The 5th Bank Gallery, the Settlers Arms and The Old Vault Gallery, to recite more recent history. The building was originally the first bank in Picton and the fifth Bank of New Zealand in the country
However it has undergone its most extensive transformation yet under the tasteful and cutting edge influence of Juliearna Kavanagh, formerly of Kavanagh House luxury lodge, South Canterbury. The building has been given a new lease of life as Escape to Picton Boutique Hotel, Restaurant and Bar. It has become an exuberant and luxurious hotel adorned with fine furnishings, creative design features, fixtures and fittings that exude a comfortable, luxurious style.
Inside Escape there is a chic bar/restaurant which serves brunch/lunch for casual dining and a tempting array of gourmet platters to suite the taste of the most exacting and sophisticated clientele in the evening.
