Sights & Activities - Sea Kayaking and Water Pursuits

Wow Dad gives birth to up to 421 babies at a time!

It's true he really does. Did you know that we have a native seahorse in New Zealand and it is in fact the largest seahorse in the world! Our professional team would be delighted to tell you about the extraordinary life of the New Zealand 'Pot-Bellied' Seahorse, the many and varied marine creatures that are part of New Zealand's living reefs and the cool things in the Marlborough Sounds.

Seahorse World is an invaluable resource, much admired by all. Up close we have one of the largest collections of New Zealand marine life on display.

(NB. RAMS for schools and curriculum linked teaching resources are provided for you)

Our seahorses are the stars with 8 tanks containing hundreds of New Zealand seahorses, from tiny 'ponies' to fully-grown adults. There is the shark pool, crayfish, 6 metre giant squid (preserved), octopus, rays, commercial species, rocky shore display, life size models of orca and Hectors dolphin, interactive touch pool, a magnificent collection of marine fossils, education area for video and reading and many highly informative wall displays.

Our knowledgeable and friendly staff have a range of qualifications from marine biology to zoology and ecology. They really make the experience for you providing extensive information about New Zealand’s marine creatures.

Our presentations are tailored from fun-based learning for primary pupils, to more scientific marine biology for students and adults.
