Destination Marlborough is govered by a Board of Trustees. The board consists of two Council-appointed members with each Board member being appointed for a three-year term. Further members are appointed by an Appointments Committee on a two year term. Trustees are chosen from Marlborough’s wider business community and bring to the organisation skills such as international marketing, company management, public relations and mainstream tourism knowledge.

Joe Ferraby - Chair
Joe joined the Destination Marlborough board in 2006, having lived and farmed in Marlborough all his life. Joe brings significant governance experience as a director and chairman of a number of companies with turn over ranging from $150k to $2.2b, in sectors as varied as exporting, manufacturing, retailing, electricity, wine industry and the finance industry. Joe enjoys helpings his wife with her "Garden of National Significance" which annually attracts a lot of visitors from New Zealand and Internationally
Trevor Hook
Trevor has had a long association with Destination Marlborough, including a role as Chair for 5 years. Trevor and his wife Jann own and operate Te Mahia Bay Resort in the Kenepuru Sound. They have been at their Sounds property for 17 years. He has been involved for 4 years with NZ tourism awards assessment and is currently a Judge for the awards. Trevor also chairs the board of Queen Charlotte College in Picton, which has both an Aquaculture and Tourism /Hospitality academy. His interests are in tourism, the natural environment and education.
Te Rehia Tapata-Stafford
te Rehia Tapata-Stafford is one of two partners of Pakohe Communications Ltd established in 2005 and based in Picton. The Company specialises in;
• the Creative sector
• cultural heritage
• indigenous and mainstream tourism sector.
Work in progress for the Company has been the drive to progress a community based initiative across the region to tell our stories based on our shared history as a unique selling point for the visitor industry across Te Tau Ihu (Marlborough, Nelson, Tasman Region)
te Rehia is a Board member of Nelson based Wakatu Incorporation, Kayak Abel Tasman, Kaipupu Point Mainland Island Society, involved with the restoration of Kaipupu Point into a wild life bird sanctuary in the Marlborough Sounds.
te Rehia has had a long history of working with communities to create and compliment sustainable businesses within the tourism and creative industries.
She has a passion of developing new and innovate ways of telling our stories to share with the rest of the world. Her key strengths are in developing enduring relationships with stakeholders.
Allan Scott
Allan is the Founder and Managing Director of Allan Scott Wines & Estates Ltd, an established Marlborough winery, vineyard, and restaurant. He has been a Destination Marlborough board member for 8 years. Allan has been part of the Marlborough wine industry since its infancy, and has been instrumental in the development of many of the region’s vineyards.
Dain Simpson
Dain Simpson is a director and joint owner of The Portage Resort Hotel in the Marlborough Sounds, an historic property acquired in 2000 and since substantially upgraded to meet the needs of the international market. He has been a Council nominee to the Destination Marlborough Board since January 2005. He is also an international tourism consultant and practices in the area of tourism development and investment in Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the Pacific.
Marcus Pickens
Marcus has worked exclusively in the wine business since achieving marketing and management qualifications to Postgraduate level 15 years ago. Working in all facets of wine business from the coal face, brand marketing and sales of ultra premium wines give Marcus a deep understanding of the success factors for wine brands and regions plus a grasp of the complexity and challenges the wine industry faces. Marcus is a new member of the Destination Marlbrough board and hopes to bring closer interaction between wine and tourism through his involvement with the regional wine association in Marlborough, Wine Marlborough.
Thomas Davis
Thomas Davis is the General Manager of the Interislander. Thomas’s experience in negotiating with Government, his senior role in the transport industry and has a depth of understanding of the tourism industry, particularly to Marlborough. Thomas Davis’s background is with the Interislander and with ONTRACK. He was Group General Manager of the Interislander until its acquisition by Toll Holdings, spent four years at ONTRACK, his final role until early this year being Acting Chief Executive before returning to Interislander in April this year. He lives in Wellington, but enjoys spending time on this side of the Strait too.
